Potassium Formate brine is colorless clear liquid.

Application: Potassium Formate brine can be used in Floc-water Drilling,  as Drilling Fluid, Drill-in Fluid, Workover and Completion Fluid in oil field, it readily exchanges its potassium ions with clays and shales to inhibit their reactivity and contribute to improved hole stability. Polymers and Starches should generally be pre-hydrated prior to addition to the Potassium Formate system. At higher concentrations Potassium Formate will provide temperature and bio-stability  to starches, PACs and polymers. Barite (Barium Sulphate) will become soluble if the Potassium Formate concentration is 40% or higher. In these circumstances  

CaCO₃ can be used to increase density. The Potassium Formate may be added directly to the mud system to achieve both the desired initial concentration and for maintenance of the potassium ion as depletion occurs.

Potassium Formate is also used as leather tanning agent, reducing agent in printing & dyeing industry, coagulator in cement, also used in the manufacture of Carbon Black and Potassium Diformate.
